About Us

Stephen and Nichola Burden both come from families with long traditions in the furniture industry.  Stephen’s family were originally from Mells in Somerset where they constructed quality Victorian furniture (ADD PHOTOS).  Nichola comes from the Inglesant family who were major furniture makers and furnishers in Leicester.

As a young man Stephen returned to Dorset from studying in London taking on a derelict cottage near Wimborne.  Under many centuries of plaster, timber and wallpaper he discovered a completely preserved semi defensive C14th First Floor Hall House originally John of Gaunts Royal Hunting Lodge; it is considered to be one of the most important buildings in the country.  During this process of restoration and repair were developed the many skills and techniques which help Making Furniture’s products that little bit unique and special.
